Roughing Gouge: The roughing
gouge is used for Spindle Turning. It is the tool to turn the stock
from square to round. Never use the
roughing gouge for bowl
turning.
Spindle Gouge: The
spindle gouge is used for exterior turning. It is usually used for
making coves and adding details to a turning. It can
also be used for
turning beads and for exterior and shallow turning of bowls.
Bowl
Gouge: The bowl gouge has a deep flute for removing large wood
shavings. It is used to form the outside shape and hollow the
inside of a bowl.

Roundnose Scraper: The roundnose scraper is used for removing
small amounts of material. It is often used on the inside of a bowl or
hollow form to smooth the interior surface.
Skew Chisel: The skew is used to smooth the outside of a
cylinder and for making beads on a spindle. It is also used for marking
a
spindle.
Parting Tool: The parting tool is used to make flat
bottom cuts. It is also used to cut a portion of the stock completely
off or part it
from the
rest.
